We covered a lot of ground last week about how we envision the future of work, one that’s largely about more fluid, distributed, often international teams. But one thing we didn’t mention is what technology these teams will use to communicate. Certainly, we believe that the right conferencing solution will remain a vital tool, but what about messaging? Work evolution

At Voxeet, we spend our days thinking about the nature of collaborative work and developing solutions to facilitate it. We hear a lot about how collaboration tools like ours will drive the move toward a more distributed workforce, and about the advantages—and the drawbacks—that this move presents.

To sidestep some of those drawbacks, some older, larger companies—like Yahoo and Hewlett-Packard—are doubling down on more traditional, butts-in-desk-chairs models. But increasingly, companies seem to be leaving traditional office models behind, many with great success. In a 2012 Forbes article, J.J. Colao points to Automattic (of WordPress fame) as one such company:

As our Workplace Wednesdays series gets underway and we start exploring how to communicate across distributed teams, I want to share a bit more about where Voxeet fits into the evolving workplace landscape—not just as a purveyor of collaboration tools for teams, but as a distributed team ourselves.
